2019 First Semester – Fourth Grade

The goal of the Villa Library Program is to develop in students an enjoyment of reading, an appreciation of learning and to ensure that students can apply the skills, strategies and processes to be effective users and producers of information and ideas.

Library Responsibilities

Students have reviewed the various sections of the library and how resources are organized. They have practiced using the online search stations to locate resources.

Literature Appreciation

Students were introduced to the books on this year’s “Fifty Nifty” recommended list. They have been encouraged to read books for pleasure from these lists.

Biographies

Students have been exposed to a variety of biographies and identified important attributes and characteristics of each person in the story.

Author Study – Chris Van Allsburg

Students have been discussing books written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. Students have identified aspects of his writing and artistic style.

Information Literacy and the Research Process – Classic Toys

Students reviewed and practiced the first steps of the research process. Each student selected one classic toy to study and find out, “What makes this toy special in the hearts and minds of children?” The students each located and evaluated various resources on their individual toy and began reading and comparing the information.
