Second Grade – Second Semester

Literature Appreciation – How do people show tolerance and respect for differences?

Students continued their study of diversity with race, ethnicity and gender. They listened to and discussed how the characters in the selected stories showed tolerance, acceptance and respect for people with similarities and differences in roles, responsibilities, abilities and identities. We also identified the prejudice and discrimination faced by people who made a difference in our world.

Summer Reading Suggestions

I have compiled four lists of new titles and award winners for a range of grade levels. The titles on each list include a variety of genres and have been selected to appeal to a wide range of reading abilities and interests. All four lists can be found on my website. http://kstrand.thevilla.org/

The Seattle Public Library at www.spl.org and King County Library at www.kcls.org offer summer reading programs to keep kids involved with books. Visit their websites or a branch to learn details of the programs.
